“When my mother was brought in and she saw the decorated foyer she thought she was in a hotel. She was so impressed because elderly are usually a little afraid going into a new environment and she wasn’t. When I first came in here with her I was impressed with the cleanliness, inside and out. And I was also very impressed with the personnel from the maintenance, to the custodial, to the top administrator. I sensed a legitimate kindness, I sensed their friendliness, their personalities would rub off on the residents, and I’ve seen it in two years. And first I’m thinking, ‘Could this be an act?’ and the answer was no. This is an honest-to-goodness legitimate - people who are so concerned and every department, I’ve noticed, I couldn’t find a flaw. And I’ve come in at all different hours and I see the same five-star professional ability from every worker and I was impressed with it. I was amazed at how they keep their personality, the workers, when they deal with some residents who may be a little bit, let's say ornery, and they’re difficult to handle. I’ve talked to some residents who don’t want to leave. They make the resident feel like you’re not just a commodity, you’re a very important person. And the other thing that impressed me was every resident gets equal treatment. I have not seen any resident get preferential. I’ve seen equality, which I can’t get over it, and I’m thinking I couldn’t do that. When my mother entered Highland Park Care Center, the thing that impressed her most was the personality and the niceness of all employees toward her. But she would just tell me all the stories about the niceties done, from people dropping off laundry to people from the kitchen. She loves the food and she also loves the activities at Highland Park Care Center because they’re varied. There’s a lot she doesn’t like, so don’t go. And what she does like she goes. Activities department does a terrific job here. The most important thing that I see with my mother at Highland Park Care Center is the professional concern for her health.”

“I like Highland Park Care Center because they care. They do the best that they can and I think that they do up and beyond the call of duty. Highland Park Care Center is a place that I would recommend to anyone. They are very caring people. I have not asked for one thing and they have - bam-bam-bam! - they’re on it. Sometimes they’ll come and tell me, ‘Mr. Jacobs wanted so-and-so, so-and so,’ and they’ll say, ‘And we got it for him, Mrs. J, is that okay?’ Sure! I think that they’re a bunch of caring people that do their job very well. And believe me, I know, because I’ve been in the nursing field for a long time, I’m retired now, but I think that they care. I think they’ll do anything they can for a resident. I think that it’s wonderful care. The best that you can get, I think he gets it. I couldn’t ask for anything more, and I mean that from my heart. I don’t think that he could get anything better than what he’s getting here.”
